Casting Call for migrant performers to be a part of a devised musical R&D.
***open to all immigrant and migrant performers, not just Jewish ones***
The JEWish CABARET is working on a new musical that will explore the important theme of being an immigrant theatre performer in the UK.
We are looking for versatile and talented performers for our upcoming production this summer - a devised musical that will be created in a collaborative style - so experience with improvisation / devised work /playing instruments is advantageous.
Please note that this production is not Jewish-themed and we’re looking to explore the experiences of migrants from all backgrounds, cultures and religions. We are only Jew-ISH, so don’t let that scare you!
We are looking for:
Three migrant performers, preferably one female identifying and two male identifying with a background in musical theatre. We already cast two female identifying performers, and our aim is to broaden the variety of voice types in our production.
At The JEWish CABARET we value people as individuals with diverse opinions, cultures, lifestyles and circumstances. We welcome applications from all sections of the community, and positively encourage applications from trans and non binary performers, and people from all ethnicities and backgrounds.
We are looking for actors who are willing to share with us their experience as part of the creative process.
Devising process and timeline:
The devising process will take place in weekly meetings across April - June (to be coordinated with the cast), and will culminate in an intensive R&D week in July with 3 performances at its end in order to collect feedback.
In addition, there will be a fundraising cabaret evening on Saturday 20th May where we will also present the wonderful cast and give our audiences a taste of what’s to come. Please keep that day free for both the show and a short rehearsal earlier in the day.
Pay:
We are doing all we can to ensure that our actors will be paid, as they deserve. We are waiting to hear back from the Arts Council application we submitted, and hope to be able to provide equity rate payments. However, since Brexit the Arts Council grants have become even more competitive than ever before, and we are also preparing ourselves for a scenario in which this production will be self-funded. In that case the pay will be on a profit-share basis, with a contribution of funds from our two fundraising cabaret and other fundraising efforts.
